Hard Rock Vs Classic Rock

Was just wondering if everybody else feels the same way I do - There is a thin line between classic rock and hard rock...right?
Whitesnake for example, one of my favorite bands. They are classified as Classic Rock, but their music varies a lot, and to me it seems closer to Hard Rock than anything else. "Classic" is used as a label to older rock music bands.
Anyway, just thought I would share ;)
